England Women recorded their biggest-ever win at Wembley Stadium, thrashing China 8-0 in a friendly international on Tuesday. The victory was also Sarina Wiegman's 50th win as England manager, achieved in dominant fashion before a sold-out crowd.
Georgia Stanway scored a hat-trick, becoming the first Lionesses midfielder to achieve the feat at Wembley. Beth Mead, Alessia Russo, and Ella Toone were among the other scorers as England broke their previous record of 6-0 against Portugal set before the Euros.
England manager Sarina Wiegman praised her team's ruthlessness in the final third. "We want to be more ruthless in the final third and I think that is what we did today," she told ITV. "I think we started well and they played in a different shape that they didn't before so we had to adapt to that which was really good."
Stanway expressed her delight after the match, saying: "We are very happy, I think the most important thing was starting fast today. I am not known for scoring goals at the moment so I will take that, I am happy with that."
The Lionesses will next face Ghana on Tuesday as they continue their preparations for future tournaments.
