England 6-4 France: Bronze Final Seals Best World Cup Since 1966

Bukayo Saka scored a hat-trick as England beat France 6-4 in a thrilling bronze final to confirm their best World Cup showing since 1966.

First-Half Dominance

A remarkable third-place play-off saw the Three Lions take a 4-0 lead into half-time, after Declan Rice, Ezri Konsa and Saka ran riot in the first half. England's attacking display left France stunned as they built an insurmountable lead before the break.

French Fightback Falls Short

But France came out in blistering fashion after the break and scored two quickfire goals amid a number of glaring misses from the likes of Michael Olise and Bradley Barcola. Kylian Mbappe then grabbed his second – moving clear of Lionel Messi in the Golden Boot race – as France came within one goal of equalising.

Late Drama Secures Victory

Djed Spence won a penalty, which Saka converted, but there was still time for two more goals as Ousmane Dembele gave France hope again, only for Jude Bellingham to score a stunning solo effort with the last kick of the game. The win marks England's best World Cup finish since they won the tournament in 1966.
