Arsenal extended their lead at the top of the Premier League with a 2-0 victory over Burnley at Turf Moor, courtesy of headers from Viktor Gyökeres and Declan Rice. The Gunners dominated from start to finish, with Burnley failing to register a single shot on target.
Mikel Arteta's side took the lead in the first half through a set-piece, their 12th such goal in the league this season. Rice's corner was headed back across goal by Gabriel Magalhães, allowing Gyökeres to nod in from close range. The Swedish striker was forced off at half-time with an injury.
Burnley manager Scott Parker admitted the goal took the wind out of his side. 'It was a set-play goal that we worked a lot this week. But it took the edge off of us a little bit and then the second goal as well,' he said.
Arsenal doubled their lead in the second half, ironically from a Burnley long throw. They cleared the ball and countered quickly, with Leandro Trossard setting up Rice to fire home his first goal for the club. The win was Arsenal's seventh in a row without conceding in all competitions.
Arteta praised his team's performance: 'It's a really tough place to come. We started the game exceptionally well. I think the first half is one of the best that we've played; scored two goals, generated another two or three big chances and conceded nothing.'
Burnley, who have now lost only their second home game since promotion, remain in the relegation battle. Parker acknowledged Arsenal's quality: 'They're just a very, very good team. They're a team that I believe have every single ingredient to go and win the league this year.'
