Cowboys Bench Pickens & Lamb: Curfew Breach & Missed Bus Revealed
Cowboys Bench Pickens & Lamb for Discipline Breaches

Stars Benched as Cowboys Enforce Discipline

The Dallas Cowboys made a bold statement on team discipline by benching two of their top wide receivers, George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb, for the first drive of their Monday night clash with the Las Vegas Raiders. The decision, confirmed by team officials, stemmed from separate but related breaches of team protocol.

The Reasons Behind the Punishment

While both players were absent for the opening series, their infractions differed. Team executive vice president Stephen Jones clarified that Lamb's benching was a direct result of both players missing a Sunday curfew. The duo had been out late for dinner and drinks at a casino, violating team rules.

However, George Pickens faced an additional penalty for missing the team bus ahead of the game. This double infraction led head coach Brian Schottenheimer to sit both stars for the crucial first series. Schottenheimer later confirmed that the players were informed of the disciplinary measures before the match began.

Leadership Backs Firm Stance

Speaking to Dallas radio station 105.3 The Fan, Stephen Jones praised the coach's unwavering approach. "He's not going to play favourites with anybody," Jones stated, emphasising that the coach felt very strongly about upholding standards. He also sought to clarify the separate nature of the incidents, noting, "One was of the night before leading into the morning and the other one was missing the buses."

In a separate interview, team owner and general manager Jerry Jones indicated his concern with the timing of the receivers' outing. Jerry Jones expressed he has "no problem with partying" but stressed that a road trip is a "business trip", implicitly criticising the decision to be out late ahead of important team meetings.

On-Field Impact and Result

Following their brief benching, both Pickens and Lamb returned to the game and made significant contributions. The pair combined for 14 catches and 210 receiving yards, with each player catching one touchdown. Their efforts helped propel the Dallas Cowboys to a 33-16 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders, improving their season record to 4-5-1.
