Washington Commanders Seek New Offensive Coordinator After Kliff Kingsbury Exit
Commanders' Offensive Coordinator Kliff Kingsbury Departs

The Washington Commanders have been plunged into a search for a new offensive coordinator following the sudden departure of Kliff Kingsbury from the organisation.

Mutual Agreement to Part Ways

As first reported by ESPN's respected NFL insider Adam Schefter, Kingsbury met with Commanders head coach Dan Quinn on Tuesday. The outcome of that meeting was a mutual decision for the pair to go their separate ways, with Kingsbury opting to pursue other opportunities outside the franchise.

The former Texas Tech quarterback and well-travelled NFL figure had been with Washington for two seasons, having joined from the University of Southern California (USC) in 2024.

A Season of Contrasts for the Commanders' Offence

Kingsbury's tenure in the American capital was a tale of two very different campaigns. His first year in charge was heralded as a significant success, largely due to the spectacular debut of rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, who flourished under his guidance to secure the prestigious NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award.

However, the 2025 season proved far more challenging. Injury problems for the pivotal Jayden Daniels led to a dramatic downturn in offensive production. The unit struggled to maintain momentum, ultimately finishing the year ranked a disappointing 22nd in the league for both total yards and points scored.

Looking Ahead to the 2026 Season

The search for Kingsbury's replacement begins immediately as the Commanders look to rebuild an offence that showed such promise just a year ago. The organisation will be keen to find a coordinator who can reignite the potential of Jayden Daniels and elevate the team's performance.

Meanwhile, head coach Dan Quinn will remain firmly in charge of the defensive side of the ball heading into the 2026 season. His continued leadership there provides a measure of stability as the offensive coaching staff undergoes a significant change.
