The draw for the Champions League last 16 took place on Friday morning at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland, with both English sides learning their next opponents. Holders Manchester City and Premier League rivals Arsenal, who both topped their groups, avoided the strongest teams until at least the quarter-finals.
Manchester City, who secured a perfect record in the group stage, were drawn against Copenhagen. Arsenal, meanwhile, will face Porto, a repeat of a tie they last won in 2010, when Nicklas Bendtner scored a hat-trick in a 5-0 victory. Both Premier League clubs will be confident of progressing to the quarter-finals.
The draw was conducted by former Chelsea defender John Terry. Later on Friday, the Europa League and Europa Conference League play-off draws also took place. British clubs Liverpool, West Ham, Brighton and Rangers bypass the Europa League play-offs as group winners, while Aston Villa are already through to the last 16 of the Conference League.
All knockout play-off legs are scheduled for 15 and 22 February, with the last-16 draws for the Europa League and Conference League taking place on 23 February.
