American football defensive tackle Breiden Fehoko has confirmed his retirement from the sport at the age of 29, ending a professional career that included stints with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Los Angeles Chargers.

A Career Cut Short

The Hawaii-born athlete, who celebrated a national championship victory with LSU in 2020, was released by the Steelers ahead of the current season. Having first signed with the Pittsburgh team in 2023, Fehoko did not make a single official NFL appearance for them during his time there.

His professional journey began with a three-season spell at the Los Angeles Chargers prior to his move to Pittsburgh.

A Heartfelt Farewell on Social Media

Fehoko chose Instagram to share the news of his retirement with his fans and followers. In a reflective post, he expressed a profound sense of contentment with his decision.

"Sometimes in life you just get a sense of fulfilment & for me it’s now," he wrote. "29 years old and I couldn’t be happier with the journey of where this game has taken me."

He extended his gratitude to his family for their unwavering support, stating they never allowed him to quit and, more importantly, never let him stop believing in himself. He also thanked every coach, teammate, trainer, opponent, and agent, acknowledging that they all contributed to making him a better version of himself every time he stepped onto the field.

Looking to the Future

While his time on the professional gridiron has concluded, the legacy of his collegiate success and his positive impact on teammates remains. The football community now watches with interest to see what the next chapter holds for the former champion.
