Bowen commits future to West Ham after Kretinsky talks

Jarrod Bowen has committed his future to West Ham United, signing a revised contract that ensures he remains at the club for the 2026/27 season. The decision provides a major boost to manager Nuno Espirito Santo as the Hammers prepare for life in the Championship following relegation.

Contract details and background

Bowen, who joined West Ham from Hull City in January 2020, originally signed a seven-year contract in 2023 that runs until the summer of 2030. The new deal does not extend beyond 2030 but guarantees he will stay for the upcoming season, despite significant transfer interest from Aston Villa and Everton. The 29-year-old winger missed out on selection for England's World Cup squad.

West Ham were determined to keep Bowen during a transfer window in which they have already lost midfielder Mateus Fernandes to rivals Tottenham Hotspur for £85 million. The club is also fending off advances for winger Crysencio Summerville.

Bowen's motivation and Kretinsky's vision

Bowen revealed he was impressed by the vision laid out by incoming majority owner Daniel Kretinsky and board member Jiri Svarc during a meeting in Prague, Czech Republic. “I flew out to Prague in the Czech Republic to meet Daniel and Jiri, and the ambition that I got from them, certainly in terms of the direction the Club wants to move in, it interests me a lot,” Bowen said.

“It didn’t take a lot for me, because this Club means a lot to me. I did an interview after the (Leeds United) game and said my vision is to get this Club back in the Premier League. Sometimes you think it falls on deaf ears and people say ‘he’s just saying that’. There have been things written and different things said and you have to look at it and bite your tongue sometimes. But when I say something, I don’t hide away from it.”

Promotion push and leadership role

Bowen, who serves as West Ham captain, emphasized his commitment to leading the promotion fight. “For me, the main thing is to get this Club back into the Premier League and speak to people in the Club about what we want to do moving forward as a Club for the better of the Club. It was a no-brainer for me to be here, and the vision is clear, it’s the Premier League,” he added.

The Hammers are now focused on mounting a strong promotion challenge in the Championship, with Bowen's leadership and goal-scoring ability seen as crucial to their ambitions.
