Chelsea Boss Bompastor Sidesteps Questions on Bright and Kerr Futures

Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastor has firmly refused to address the contract futures of star players Millie Bright and Sam Kerr in the build-up to a crucial Women's Champions League quarter-final first leg against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. The high-profile pair are rumoured to be departing the club when their contracts expire this summer, potentially ending their respective 12-year and six-year tenures with the Blues.

Transitional Season for Chelsea

Chelsea currently occupy third place in the Women's Super League during what has become a transitional season for the club. They appear unlikely to secure a seventh consecutive domestic title and must overcome holders Arsenal to advance to the Champions League semi-finals. When questioned about the significant number of players out of contract, Bompastor emphasised the club's ongoing ambition.

"I think the main thing for fans to know is Chelsea will still be really ambitious next season," stated Bompastor. "Obviously we are in lots of conversations with the players, but I think that conversation is more private. It's really important for us to focus on the game tomorrow. Kerr and Bright for now are under contract with Chelsea. What will happen in the future is not for me to comment now."

Defiant Message from Chelsea Midfielder

Chelsea midfielder Erin Cuthbert issued a defiant message to those underestimating her team's chances in the high-stakes London derby. "I play for Scotland, so I'm part of the underdog mentality quite a lot," she said. "I enjoy that. When everybody writes you off, you've got to step up and be counted."

Arsenal's Historic Champions League Pedigree

Arsenal remain the sole English team to have won the Women's Champions League trophy, adding to their 2007 triumph by defeating Barcelona in last year's final. Striker Alessia Russo acknowledged the club's prestigious history while focusing on the present challenge.

"We feel grateful that Arsenal have that history but it's now a new season, times change, and all our focus is on doing it again," said Russo. "We loved that experience of winning the trophy in Lisbon, and I think every player will want to experience that all over again."

Other Champions League Fixtures

In other Women's Champions League action, Wolfsburg will host Lyon in Tuesday evening's early kick-off, setting the stage for another thrilling European encounter.
