Liverpool's Champions League victory over Galatasaray was marred by a serious injury to Galatasaray winger Noa Lang. The 26-year-old Dutch player trapped his hand on the advertising boards, resulting in a deep cut that required extensive medical attention.
Lang collapsed in pain, clutching his bleeding finger, and was stretchered off the pitch with his hand raised. TNT Sports commentator Ally McCoist noted the severity, saying the reaction of a nearby photographer indicated a significant problem.
Liverpool fans gave Lang a standing ovation as he left the field, with the home side leading 4-0 at the time. The match was temporarily halted while medical staff bandaged his thumb before he was taken to hospital for further treatment.
Dominik Szoboszlai, who scored one of Liverpool's goals, was later asked about comparisons to club legend Steven Gerrard. Szoboszlai said it was a nice comparison and an inspiration, adding he is happy to play for the club.
Liverpool's goals came from Szoboszlai, Hugo Ekitike, Ryan Gravenberch, and Mohamed Salah, who also missed a first-half penalty. Galatasaray had led 1-0 from the first leg but were overwhelmed in the second leg.
