Arsenal's Myles Lewis-Skelly was accused of 'falling asleep' during the Gunners' 3-1 Champions League victory over Bayern Munich at the Emirates Stadium. The 18-year-old academy graduate, making only his fifth start of the season, was caught out defensively for Bayern's equaliser.
Former Arsenal star Paul Merson, speaking on Sky Sports, highlighted the error: 'Lewis-Skelly falls asleep. It's a diagonal ball over to Gnabry but he falls asleep, it goes over his head.' Merson praised the finish from Lennart Karl but insisted the teenager was at fault.
However, ex-Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves offered a more lenient view, suggesting Harry Kane's movement caused confusion for William Saliba. 'Harry dropping deep has caused chaos,' Hargreaves said, noting that Saliba was caught in two minds.
Lewis-Skelly was substituted for Riccardo Calafiori, who later set up Noni Madueke's goal. Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta praised Calafiori's impact, saying: 'He comes in to make things happen and he's always so positive.'
Despite the defensive lapse, Arsenal secured a dominant win with goals from Jurrien Timber, Madueke, and Gabriel Martinelli, strengthening their hold on top spot in the Champions League group stage.
