Arteta's Private Message to Arsenal Squad After Cup Final Defeat

Arsenal head into the March international break reeling from a painful Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester City. Manager Mikel Arteta has already called for his players to rally after Nico O'Reilly's brace ended their dreams of an historic quadruple. The Gunners now have a two-week break to recover before returning to action.

Looking Ahead to Crucial Fixtures

Arsenal's first game back after the international break comes against Southampton in the FA Cup quarter-finals. This is followed by the first leg of their Champions League meeting with Sporting CP. They won't return to Premier League action until Bournemouth visit North London on April 11.

While Arteta's side can no longer end the season with four trophies, three remain within their grasp. Their advantage at the top of the Premier League table stands at nine points, though Manchester City have a game in hand and will host Arsenal when the teams meet in April.

Arteta's Perspective on the Season

Arteta spoke privately with his players after the Carabao Cup final defeat to remind them they still have the power to create positive memories from this season. Despite their disappointment at Wembley, there remains a significant opportunity for the team to demonstrate that this season's hard work was not in vain.

"Well, especially to have some perspective on it and what this team has done in the last eight months has been incredible," Arteta said when asked about his message to the squad. "We're going to use this disappointment and this fire in the belly to have the most amazing two months that we have ever had together. That's on us and we'll manage that energy in the right way. Now we have to go through that pain and disappointment and it's normal and it's part of football."

International Squad Changes for Six Arsenal Players

Six members of Arsenal's squad have seen their international responsibilities change during this break. Five players have dropped out of their national team squads while another has received a late call-up following an injury elsewhere.

Ben White is the player to get a late call-up. The right-back hasn't played for England since leaving the 2022 World Cup camp early but has been brought in by manager Thomas Tuchel after the withdrawal of Jarell Quansah.

While White comes into the England squad, his Arsenal teammate Ebere Eze has dropped out. Eze missed the Carabao Cup final through injury and his place in the Three Lions squad has been taken by Newcastle star Harvey Barnes.

Jurrien Timber also missed the final and won't link up with the Netherlands squad for their upcoming friendlies. Leandro Trossard, Gabriel, and William Saliba all played at Wembley but have withdrawn from international duty for Belgium, Brazil, and France respectively.

Fitness Focus During the Break

While some members of the Gunners squad are away with their national teams, others will be using this period to aim for full fitness ahead of the crucial run-in. Arsenal's medical and coaching staff will be working closely with those remaining at the training ground to ensure they're prepared for the demanding schedule ahead.

The international break provides both challenges and opportunities for Arteta's side as they look to bounce back from their cup final disappointment and maintain their pursuit of three remaining trophies this season.
