Harry Maguire Suspended for One Game After Bournemouth Red Card

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire will serve a one-match ban after being sent off in the 2-2 draw with Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium. The red card was issued for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity when he pulled down Bournemouth striker Evanilson in the penalty area with 12 minutes remaining.

Referee Stuart Attwell initially awarded the penalty and showed Maguire a red card, a decision that was confirmed by VAR. The Premier League match centre stated: 'The referee’s call of penalty and red card for Maguire for the denial of an obvious goal scoring opportunity (DOGSO) was checked and confirmed by VAR – with it deemed to be a holding offence with no attempt to challenge for the ball.'

Junior Kroupi converted the resulting penalty to level the score at 2-2. Manchester United manager then made defensive substitutions, bringing on Ayden Heaven and Manuel Ugarte for Casemiro and Matheus Cunha to secure a point. The draw saw United miss the chance to consolidate third place in the Premier League, leaving the door open for Aston Villa, Liverpool, and Chelsea in the race for Champions League qualification.
