Mikel Arteta has issued a firm message to critics of Arsenal's major summer signing, Viktor Gyokeres, insisting the striker is primed to reach a new level in the second half of the campaign.

The Gunners' manager conceded that the £64 million forward must be better understood by his teammates, while also needing to adapt himself. Gyokeres has found the net just six times in 18 appearances across all competitions since his high-profile move.
His form has drawn particular scrutiny following a return from a muscle injury at the end of last month. The 27-year-old Swedish international was singled out for a subdued performance in last weekend's 2-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

"Now he is back," Arteta continued. "I have seen many positive things in the last two matches. I know we have to keep adjusting him and understanding him a little better in certain situations, and he has to do the same. But it is about time. He has all our support."
