England Under-21 manager Lee Carsley has confirmed that Arsenal teenager Max Dowman is being monitored for a potential promotion to the U21 squad. The 15-year-old has impressed for the Gunners this season, making five senior appearances and becoming the club's youngest-ever starter and Champions League player.
Dowman has already represented England at U16, U17, and U19 levels. Carsley acknowledged the need to accelerate his development due to his club challenges, but stressed the importance of patience. “He's a player that we're monitoring,” Carsley said. “It's important that we keep in mind how young Max is. He'll definitely get his chance within the Under-21s.”
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta praised Dowman's courage and personality on the pitch, stating: “What he's done on the pitch… that's personality, that's courage – and you cannot teach that.”
Dowman is not the only youngster under consideration; Manchester United's Shea Lacey has also trained with the U21s. Carsley noted Lacey's talent but highlighted the need to avoid rushing players due to injury setbacks.
