Arsenal Face Striker Dilemma: Sesko or Gyokeres?

Arsenal are preparing to make a move for a new striker in the summer transfer window, but face a difficult choice between RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko and Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokeres. The Gunners have struggled in front of goal this season, sitting 15 points behind Premier League champions Liverpool and battling to hold onto second place. Injuries to Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus have exacerbated the need for a centre-forward.

According to The Independent, Arsenal are still weighing up whether to pursue Sesko or Gyokeres. The latter has been prolific in Portugal, scoring 52 goals in 50 appearances, while Sesko has netted 21 times for a struggling Leipzig side. Gyokeres, at 26, is considered more of a finished product and is reportedly available for around £60 million. Sesko, five years younger, could offer better long-term value.

The arrival of Andrea Berta as Arsenal's sporting director has reignited speculation over a move for Gyokeres, a former Coventry City striker. However, the Independent reports that most of the groundwork for a Sesko transfer has already been completed. Arsenal expressed interest in Sesko last summer but opted not to proceed until Eddie Nketiah's sale to Crystal Palace was confirmed, by which time Sesko had signed a contract extension with Leipzig.

Sesko's agent, Elvis Basanovic, defended the decision to stay in Germany, saying: 'We can see that our decision was correct. Six months later, he is already a better striker than he was last season. What he lacks is experience. We must not forget that he is only 21 years old, so we did not want him to go to the Premier League in the summer.'

Arsenal's focus on a centre-forward could benefit Manchester United, who are reportedly leading the race for Wolves star Matheus Cunha. The Brazilian has scored 15 goals in 31 league games this season. Other options on Arsenal's watchlist include Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins and Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike, though a move for Newcastle's Alexander Isak appears unlikely.
