Arsenal's Contract Blitz: Arteta Targets Odegaard & 3 Stars After Saka Deal
Arsenal plan new deals for Odegaard & stars after Saka

Arsenal have moved swiftly to secure the future of their star winger Bukayo Saka and are now preparing a wave of new contract talks for other key players, as Mikel Arteta aims to solidify his squad's core for the long term.

Bukayo Saka Signs New Five-Year Deal

The Gunners have reached an agreement with Bukayo Saka on a new five-year contract, according to The Athletic. The 24-year-old, whose previous deal was set to expire in June 2027, is poised to put pen to paper on improved terms that reflect his status as the club's franchise player, including a substantial salary increase.

This follows a successful period of contract renewals overseen by sporting director Andrea Berta, who has already secured the futures of William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes, Ethan Nwaneri, and Myles Lewis-Skelly since his arrival.

Who Is Next on Arsenal's Contract List?

With Saka's situation resolved, the club's focus has immediately shifted to other crucial members of the squad. Mikel Arteta is eager for the club to repeat the agreement for several more stars.

Reports from football.london indicate that the club are keen to agree extensions for Jurrien Timber and Declan Rice. The Times adds that talks with Timber have moved closer, while Rice's current contract, expiring in 2028, includes an option for a further 12-month extension.

Furthermore, The Times reports that discussions are being planned for four more players whose deals also run until 2028: captain Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz, goalkeeper David Raya, and summer signing Mikel Merino.

Arteta's Own Future and Title Charge

The manager's own contract situation adds another layer to the club's planning. Mikel Arteta is entering the final year of the three-year deal he signed in 2024. He has hinted that winning this season's Premier League title could be pivotal in securing his long-term future at the Emirates.

"A lot of things have to happen in the next few months, as well, to earn the right," Arteta stated. "I think the manager has to earn the right to be here tomorrow." He emphasised that the unwavering support and desire of his players is what sustains him, alongside a high percentage of victories needed to "survive in this environment."

Currently, his team is delivering on that front. The Gunners sit top of the Premier League table, six points clear of nearest challengers Manchester City, putting them firmly on course for potential domestic silverware in May as this crucial period of off-pitch business unfolds.
