Arsenal Legend Tony Adams Urges Club to Sign Viktor Gyokeres Over Ollie Watkins
Adams: Arsenal should sign Gyokeres over Watkins

Arsenal icon Tony Adams has weighed in on the Gunners' striker search, urging the club to target Sporting CP's Viktor Gyokeres ahead of Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins.

The former Arsenal captain believes the Swedish international represents a better long-term investment for Mikel Arteta's side as they look to bolster their attacking options.

Why Gyokeres Over Watkins?

Adams explained his reasoning: "I'd probably go for Gyokeres over Watkins if I'm honest. He's younger, he's got more potential, and he's been absolutely tearing it up in Portugal."

The 25-year-old Gyokeres has been in sensational form for Sporting this season, netting 36 goals across all competitions. His physicality and finishing ability have drawn comparisons to Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.

Watkins' Premier League Experience

While acknowledging Watkins' quality, Adams suggested the 28-year-old might not represent the same value: "Watkins is a proven Premier League striker, but you're paying for that experience. Gyokeres could be the next big thing."

The Aston Villa forward has enjoyed his best season yet, scoring 19 league goals, but his age and likely transfer fee appear to be concerns for Adams.

Arsenal's Striker Dilemma

With Gabriel Jesus struggling for consistent fitness and Eddie Nketiah failing to establish himself as a regular starter, Arsenal are expected to be in the market for a new centre-forward this summer.

Gyokeres' €100 million release clause makes him an expensive option, but Adams believes the investment could pay dividends: "Sometimes you have to spend big to get the right player. He's got everything to succeed in the Premier League."

Whether Arsenal heed their legendary captain's advice remains to be seen, but the debate over their striking options is sure to continue throughout the transfer window.
