An eight-year-old boy in California is rapidly approaching the milestone of flying an airplane solo, having begun his aviation journey under his father's guidance just two years ago. Maverick Foletta, a student at Mission Park Elementary School, started learning to fly at the tender age of six from his father, Mike, at Salinas Airport, as reported by KSBW.

Maverick has already accumulated 10 hours of flight time, a significant achievement for someone so young. His instructor, Enoch Weichers, told the outlet that the young aviator is nearly at the skill level required to fly independently. "If Maverick could, he'd probably be ready to solo pretty soon, maybe in the next couple of flight lessons," Weichers stated, highlighting the boy's accelerated learning curve.

Weichers noted that most student pilots need around 60 hours of flight time, with a minimum of 40 hours, before being prepared to fly solo. However, Maverick's age provides distinct benefits. "I think kids really tend to learn really quickly because they don't have any preconceived notions of how to do things. He's very humble and a very quick learner," the instructor explained, emphasizing how youthful openness can enhance training efficiency.
