A dominant Australia have claimed their seventh Women's T20 World Cup title after a commanding seven-wicket victory over England at Lord's. Chasing a target of 142, Australia reached the total with 17 balls to spare, thanks to a composed innings from player of the match Beth Mooney.
Mooney, who was also named player of the tournament, anchored the chase with an unbeaten knock, guiding Australia home after early wickets gave England a glimmer of hope. Her partnership with Phoebe Litchfield turned the game decisively in Australia's favour.
England, batting first, posted a competitive 141, built around a resilient stand between Nat Sciver-Brunt and Heather Knight. However, Australia's disciplined bowling attack, led by Megan Schutt, kept the scoring in check and never allowed England to accelerate.
England captain Charlotte Edwards expressed disappointment but pride in her team's journey. 'Gutted, really. We came here with so much belief … but they are a very, very good team and we were completely outplayed there in the end,' she said. 'There are so many positives for the future.'
Mooney reflected on the victory, saying, 'It's been well documented that we haven't come this far in the last two World Cups. I just woke up this morning grateful to be here. It's nice to be part of the squad and have a role to play.'
The win caps a dominant tournament for Australia, who went unbeaten throughout. The final at a sold-out Lord's showcased the growth of women's cricket, with Edwards noting the progress made by teams like Scotland, Ireland, and the Netherlands.
