Oscar Pistorius, the first double amputee to compete at the Olympics, has returned to competing in sport since his release from prison, reportedly playing padel at a local court and entering Ironman events under a different name.
The former Paralympic champion was released on parole in 2024 after being convicted of murdering his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, in 2015, following an appeals court ruling that overturned an earlier manslaughter verdict. He was banned from competing in the Commonwealth Games, which are currently taking place in Glasgow.
Ironman and padel
According to the Daily Mail, the 39-year-old plays padel at a local court and has entered Ironman events under a different name. The report adds that he finished in 55th place in a 70-mile bike ride in Durban last year, and third in the 'physically challenged' category.
New job and home life
Away from sport, the report says Pistorius has taken a job with a sound engineering company. He continues to live in a mansion called Bateleur with his uncle Arnold, who raised him from the age of 15 and is one of the richest men in the region.
The house is said to have a swimming pool and a gym for training, along with private security, guard dogs and a 24/7 response service at the front gate.
Local reaction and personal life
Speaking to the Daily Mail, one local said: "We don't want to know about him around here. He's like a ghost. He's disappeared off the face of the earth and most people are happy for it to stay like that. Apparently he has a job now, although no major company would go near him."
Pistorius is reported to be an active member of his local gospel church, alongside his new girlfriend, Rita Greyling. Their relationship was confirmed when the duo attended Pistorius's wedding last year.
