Oscar Pistorius has returned to the world of sport after his release from prison in 2024. The South African Paralympic champion was found guilty of murdering his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, 13 years ago, after an appeals court overturned an initial verdict of manslaughter.
While the six-time Paralympic gold medallist is banned from competing in the Commonwealth Games because of his conviction, he has since turned his focus to other sports. According to the Daily Mail, the 39-year-old plays padel at his local court and has entered Ironmen events under an alias.
Cycling and a New Job
Pistorius came 55th in a 70-mile cycling event in Durban last year, the report states. In the "physically challenged" category, the double leg amputee finished third.
Beyond sport, Pistorius has secured employment with a sound engineering firm, according to the Daily Mail.
Life at Bateleur Mansion
He remains living in a mansion named Bateleur alongside his uncle, Arnold, who raised him from the age of 15. Arnold is among the wealthiest individuals in the area.
The property features a swimming pool and a gym, allowing the former athlete to maintain his fitness. It is also heavily protected, with private security, guard dogs and a round-the-clock response service at the entrance gate.
Neighbours Keep Their Distance
Not everyone in the area is welcoming. One resident said: "We don't want to know about him around here."
"He's like a ghost. He's disappeared off the face of the earth and most people are happy for it to stay like that."
The resident added: "Apparently he has a job now, although no major company would go near him."
Pistorius is now said to be a regular attendee at his local gospel church, together with his new girlfriend, Rita Greyling.
