England defender Dan Burn traded his football boots for cowboy boots and a Stetson to attend a country music concert with captain Harry Kane in Kansas. The 6ft 7in Newcastle United star was described by a source as "hard to miss" and "about 7ft tall" in his full Western outfit at the Ella Langley show.
Day Off After Croatia Victory
The England squad was given a day off to spend time with family in Kansas following their impressive 4-2 win over Croatia. Burn, whose wife and children flew in from Dallas, joined Kane and goalkeeping coach Jason Steele at the concert. "I like country music, so I put on the cowboy hat and boots," Burn said. "Hopefully there are no photographs knocking about. I bought the hats and boots yesterday. I got kitted out, I thought if you are going to do it, then do it properly."
Unforgettable Stadium Experience
Burn described the Dallas stadium as "probably the best that I have ever played in" and called the post-match scenes with fans "unforgettable." He added: "Singing 'Wonderwall' with the fans was an amazing moment for me. It was such a good performance, a big win against a good team in Croatia." Teammate Eberechi Eze, 27, praised the supporters: "To see that amount of love and support that we have... it gives you a different type of energy. You want to do well and win for them."
World Cup Final Dream
Despite being told by manager Thomas Tuchel that he would not start in the tournament, Burn visualizes scoring a World Cup final winner. "Obviously, I want to play and I would love to start," Burn said. "I've been lucky in the finals that I've played in or in big games, I have managed to score some big goals. That leads to confidence, knowing that I can do it if I'm asked to do it. I'd love for it to be in a World Cup final, a last-minute winner." Burn previously scored a towering header for Newcastle in the 2025 Carabao Cup final, ending the club's 70-year trophy drought.
Family Time and Father's Day
Burn spent time with wife Roz, daughter Indi (7), and son Ari (5) during the family day. He joked: "My kids are more gutted that they did not go to school. Not being around the kids for Father's Day will be strange but what an experience for them. They see all these cities in the States and see all these teams play, they will get a lot more out of that than they will from school."
Teammate Konsa Credits Father
Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa, 28, who grew up in Poplar, London, and knew Eze from junior football, credited his father for his success. "My dad helped me the most," Konsa told the FA's Lions' Den podcast. "He always kept me grounded. When you are young, you don't know what to do or what is going on. So he was my second coach outside of football."
