Amy Hunt, the 23-year-old British sprinter, described her mindset during the women's 200m world championship final as 'sexy and aggressive' after winning silver in Tokyo. The Cambridge University graduate, who broke the Under-18 world record in 2019, said she wanted to show that 'you can be an academic badass and a track goddess'. Her silver medal is her first global individual honour.
Hunt's journey has been marked by highs and lows. After bursting onto the scene as a teenager, she faced illness, mental health difficulties, and a ruptured quadriceps in 2022. She considered dropping out of Cambridge 'every single year' but graduated with a 2:1. A move to Italy helped revive her career, and she said she 'knew I would make it' after winning silver.
Following her victory, Hunt celebrated with karaoke, singing 'Maneater' by Nelly Furtado. She said the song captured the 'sexy and aggressive' vibe of her performance. Hunt, who also plays the cello at grade six and reads Chaucer, plans to balance athletics with a future as a literary critic.
