Klopp Agrees Germany Manager Role After World Cup

Jurgen Klopp has reached an agreement with the German Football Federation (DFB) to take over as the national team manager, two years after leaving Liverpool. The former Liverpool boss will replace Julian Nagelsmann, who stepped down following Germany's shock World Cup exit.

Germany were eliminated in the round of 32 by Paraguay, losing on penalties after a 1-1 draw. Nagelsmann resigned immediately after the defeat, prompting the DFB to pursue Klopp as his successor.

The DFB confirmed to Sky Germany that an agreement was reached with Klopp. “DFB President Bernd Neuendorf and DFB Vice-President Hans-Joachim Watzke held a first intensive meeting with Jürgen Klopp in New York yesterday regarding the possible appointment as Germany head coach,” they said in a statement.

Key Elements Agreed

“During the constructive talks, an understanding was reached on the key elements of a potential contract. The talks will continue next week. Both sides are confident that the negotiations – subject to an agreement with Klopp’s current employer Red Bull - can ultimately be concluded successfully,” the DFB added.

Klopp has been out of management since leaving Liverpool in 2024 after a highly successful nine-year spell that included a Premier League title and a Champions League trophy. His appointment marks a return to his home country, where he previously managed Mainz and Borussia Dortmund.
