Trump's Exclusive Florsheim Shoe Gifts Become Coveted MAGA Status Symbol

There is now a distinctive method for determining whether someone has earned favour with President Donald Trump: they receive a pair of oxford shoes. According to a new report, Trump has begun distributing $145 Florsheim brand leather shoes to Cabinet officials, lawmakers, White House advisers, and other politicians.

The Ultimate MAGA Accessory

The Wall Street Journal highlights that these shoes have become the "hottest and most exclusive MAGA status symbol." The list of recipients is extensive and includes some of the most prominent figures in Trump's orbit.

  • Vice President JD Vance
  • Secretary of State Marco Rubio
  • Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy
  • Secretary of War Pete Hegseth
  • Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick
  • White House Communications Director Steven Cheung

Additionally, Fox News star Sean Hannity, former Fox personality Tucker Carlson, Senator Lindsey Graham, and White House deputy Chief of Staff James Blair have also been gifted the footwear.

The Presidential Shoe Ritual

Insiders familiar with the custom describe how President Trump guesses people's shoe sizes in their presence. Subsequently, he instructs an aide to place an order—which the White House asserts he pays for personally—and about a week later, a brown Florsheim shoe box arrives, adorned with his signature and occasionally a personal note.

"All the boys have them," a female White House official informed the WSJ. Another source remarked, "It's hysterical because everybody's afraid not to wear them." For the past year, Trump has developed a particular fondness for presenting Florsheim brand shoes to male Cabinet officials, lawmakers, advisers, and politicians.

Those who receive a pair feel compelled to wear them when in the President's company. Some sources even recounted hearing a cabinet secretary lament having to set aside their Louis Vuitton shoes in favour of the Florsheims for White House visits.

Affordable American Heritage

The American shoe brand is notably affordable compared to other dress shoe manufacturers. Most of their dress loafers and oxfords retail for a total of $145, with some sale items dropping as low as $50.

Florsheim was established in 1892 in Chicago by German immigrant Sigmund Florsheim and his son Milton. The company supplied American soldiers during both World War I and World War II. President Harry Truman wore them, and Michael Jackson famously moonwalked in their loafers.

When contacted by phone, fifth-generation Florsheim descendant Thomas Florsheim Jr. stated he was unaware of the President's shoe orders and declined to comment on Trump's affinity for the brand.

Trump's Personal Discovery

Reportedly, Trump developed a passion for Florsheim shoes late last year while searching for footwear that would provide greater comfort after a long workday. Shortly thereafter, he started bestowing them upon his allies.

"Did you get the shoes?" Trump frequently inquires at cabinet meetings with his agency leaders. It remains unclear why Trump, known for his expensive Brioni suits and keen eye for aesthetics, sought a new shoe brand. However, he has rejected compression socks that could alleviate his chronic venous insufficiency, a condition causing swelling in the calves and ankles.

In a January interview with the Journal, Trump confessed he briefly tried wearing medical compression stockings but discontinued use because he "didn't like them."

Memorable Gift-Giving Moments

Secretary of State Marco Rubio is among the many recipients of a box from Trump. Rubio was already acquainted with the brand, having worn Florsheim boots during his 2016 presidential campaign. Both Rubio and Vice President Vance received their shoes following a December Oval Office meeting.

During an event later that same day celebrating Kennedy Center honoree Sylvester Stallone, the Vice President recounted how Trump peered over the Resolute Desk at their feet and declared, "Marco, JD, you guys have s****y shoes."

He then opened a catalogue and asked Vance, Rubio, and a third unnamed politician for their shoe sizes, which were 13, 11.5, and 6, respectively. "The President kind of leans back in his chair and says, 'You know you can tell a lot about a man by his shoe size,'" Vance recalled in his December remarks.
