Shadow Business Secretary Andrew Griffith has urged Chancellor Rachel Reeves to take five key actions to boost UK growth, including scrapping the Employment Rights Bill and reversing the North Sea oil and gas ban. Writing in the Daily Mail, Griffith warned that Labour's policies are harming businesses and risking economic decline.
Griffith called for the government to prioritise a US trade deal, increase housebuilding in London, and drop the 'death tax' on family businesses. He argued that the Employment Rights Bill, combined with a £25 billion National Insurance rise, would cost firms £5 billion and lead to job losses.
The shadow minister criticised Labour's approach to energy, saying shutting off North Sea oil fields risks blackouts while British businesses face high energy costs. He also highlighted the need for more homes in central London, accusing the mayor of reducing building rates.
Griffith's comments come ahead of a speech by Reeves expected to focus on growth. He described the government's economic strategy as 'desperate' and urged the Chancellor to put country before party.
