Phil Foden has agreed in principle a new four-year contract with Manchester City, keeping the 25-year-old at the club until 2030. The deal, which includes an additional 12-month option, is expected to be finalised without issue, despite Foden having lost his first-team place under manager Pep Guardiola.
Foden's current contract was due to expire in summer 2027. The new agreement comes after a dip in form for the midfielder, who was a key part of City's 2023-24 title success and won both the Football Writers' Association and Professional Footballers' Association player of the year awards.
Foden was a late substitute in Monday night's 3-3 draw at Everton, and his last Premier League start was in the 2-2 home draw with Nottingham Forest on 4 March. Guardiola has consistently backed Foden to return to his best, but his lack of game time and poor performances have put his selection for England's World Cup campaign under Thomas Tuchel in doubt.
Foden has spent his entire career at Manchester City, having come through the club's academy.
