One of the most acclaimed Oscar-winning British films of all time, A Man for All Seasons, is set to air on BBC Two this Sunday morning at 11:25am, with a limited-time streaming window on BBC iPlayer following the broadcast.

Film's Awards and Legacy

The 1966 historical drama, directed and produced by Fred Zinnemann, won six Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor. It also secured the BAFTA for Best British Film. In 1999, the British Film Institute ranked it as the 43rd greatest British film ever made.

According to reports, the film was a favourite of actor John Wayne.

Plot and Cast

The film adapts Robert Bolt's play of the same name, following Sir Thomas More, portrayed by Paul Scofield, who refused to support King Henry VIII (Robert Shaw) in his divorce from Catherine of Aragon and his bid to become Supreme Head of the Church of England. Scofield had previously played the role in the West End stage production.

The cast also includes Wendy Hiller, Susannah York, Orson Welles, Nigel Davenport, Vanessa Redgrave, and John Hurt in one of his early roles.
