Manchester City fans made their feelings clear for Pep Guardiola during the Premier League clash against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium. Just seconds into the match, the travelling supporters chanted “One more year, one more year, Guardiola” in response to reports that the manager could leave at the end of the season.
The reports, which emerged 24 hours before the game, claimed Guardiola would depart after City’s final match against Aston Villa on Sunday. Guardiola’s contract runs until 2027, but speculation has linked former Chelsea and Leicester boss Enzo Maresca as a potential successor.
Speaking to Sky Sports before kick-off, Guardiola declined to discuss the rumours. “It would be very unfair to speak to you now, before this important game, about the events of last night and the newspapers,” he said. “That’s something for after the game.”
City needed a win to keep their Premier League title hopes alive, with Arsenal holding a five-point lead after beating Burnley on Monday. Any dropped points would confirm the Gunners as champions. Guardiola has won 17 major trophies at City, including the FA Cup and Carabao Cup this season.
