Five Arsenal Stars Who May Have Played Last Game for Club as Arteta Plans Rebuild
Five Arsenal Stars Who May Have Played Last Game for Club

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is preparing to overhaul his squad in the summer transfer window, and several players may have already played their last game for the club. The Gunners have built a squad capable of challenging on multiple fronts, but with the aim of remaining in contention for major honours, some fringe players could be moved on.

Christian Norgaard

Christian Norgaard arrived last summer from Brentford to bolster midfield options, but the 32-year-old has found first-team opportunities limited. All six of his Premier League appearances have been as a substitute, with Arteta favouring the partnership of Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi. Even after Mikel Merino's injury, Norgaard was overlooked as Myles Lewis-Skelly started ahead of him against Fulham. With little game time, Norgaard may seek regular football elsewhere.

Ethan Nwaneri

Teenager Ethan Nwaneri joined Marseille on loan in January after four starts for Arsenal. The 19-year-old scored on his debut, but a managerial change at Marseille has stalled his development. With Martin Odegaard and Eberechi Eze battling fitness issues, some fans feared letting Nwaneri go was a mistake. However, if his first-team prospects at Arsenal do not improve, he may seek a permanent move.

Fabio Vieira

Fabio Vieira has not played for Arsenal since April 2024. The 25-year-old joined from Porto in 2022, making 49 appearances. He has spent the last two seasons on loan, currently at Hamburg, where he is a key figure. His loan includes a £17.3 million buy option that could be activated this summer.

Jakub Kiwior

Jakub Kiwior moved to Porto on loan last summer with an obligation to buy. The 26-year-old defender made 68 appearances for Arsenal over two and a half years. At Porto, he has made 38 appearances and won the Primeira Liga title, making his departure from Arsenal permanent.

Reiss Nelson

Reiss Nelson, an Arsenal academy product, will enter the final year of his contract after a loan spell at Brentford. The 26-year-old has had an injury-hit campaign, making only 13 appearances for the Bees. Brentford hold an option to make the transfer permanent. Nelson made a solitary Arsenal appearance last season before another loan to Fulham.

As Arsenal close in on the Premier League title, these players may have already played their last game under Arteta. The summer window will determine their futures.
