Wisconsin's Attorney General Josh Kaul has come under fire for including a book co-written by a self-described 'non-binary mystic and pleasure activist' in his department's equity and inclusion training curriculum.
Book and Author Details
The book, 'Subtle Acts of Exclusion,' is co-written by Dr Tiffany Jana and Dr Michael Baran. It was included in the curriculum for 'Associate Culture Staff' Training under Kaul's 2023 Equity and Inclusion Plan, which remains in effect through December. The book aims to address 'insidious and damaging' actions in the workplace, such as microaggressions and unfounded assumptions.
Dr Tiffany Jana describes herself as a 'non-binary mystic and pleasure activist.' Her website states, 'My mission is to empower and liberate minds, hearts and bodies through joy, love, knowledge and spiritual wisdom.' She also offers $600 per hour 'solo time travel sessions' and $75 per hour 'tarot/oracle readings.'
Equity and Inclusion Plan
The Wisconsin Department of Justice will 'maintain a monitoring and reporting system to ensure the overall compliance with the equity and inclusion mandates,' according to Kaul's Equity and Inclusion Commitment Letter. He wrote, 'We expect each DOJ employee to be an active participant in the implementation of this program and be accountable for complying with the objectives of this Equity and Inclusion Plan.'
The plan states it 'reflects the principles of the department and it places into action our intent to be a better and stronger organization, one that is truly diverse, inclusive and applies principles of equity so all members of the DOJ community can experience a sense of belonging.'
Backlash on Social Media
The inclusion of Jana's book has sparked backlash online. One X user wrote, 'Wisconsin, this is where your tax dollars are going... when will you wake up to the mental and moral ineptitude of the EVERS DEI Administration,' referring to Governor Tony Evers. Another commented, 'Non-binary mystic and pleasure activist??? How can we #SaveWisconsin from these kooks? It's like they're coming out of the woodwork.' A third netizen posted that the inclusion of Jana's book 'sounds exactly like something Josh Kaul would do.'
Kaul's Political Context
Kaul, who is running for re-election in November against Republican District Attorney from Fond du Lac County, has been an outspoken critic of the Trump administration. He has signed onto more than 40 lawsuits on behalf of Wisconsin since the beginning of Trump's second term. These include challenges to Trump's executive order denying birthright citizenship, blocking Medicaid funding for Planned Parenthood, and restricting Medicare and Medicaid for transgender 'interventions' on minors, according to the MacIver Institute.
The think tank notes, 'It is difficult to know exactly how much Wisconsin taxpayers are spending on these lawsuits against the federal government. Wisconsin's state budget and DOJ appropriated funds do not specify how much funding is allocated to individual cases.' The Daily Mail has reached out to Kaul's office for comment.
