Alex Marquez and Johann Zarco remain in hospital after sustaining fractures in separate crashes that forced the Catalan Grand Prix to be red-flagged twice.
Gresini Racing's Marquez collided with the back of Pedro Acosta's KTM when the bike lost power, then crashed heavily. Scans confirmed a marginal fracture on a vertebra near his neck and a fractured right collarbone. He is set to undergo surgery on Sunday evening. "Everything's under control. I'm due to go into the operating theatre tonight, but I couldn't be in better hands," Marquez said on X.
After the restart, LCR Honda's Zarco braked late on turn one, taking out Ducati's Francesco Bagnaia and Honda's Luca Marini. Zarco tumbled across the gravel with his leg caught on Bagnaia's bike. "Don't worry, we're still waiting for the test results. I've got a neck brace on, but it's more of a nuisance than anything else," Zarco said on Instagram. He added that his knee ligaments have snapped, with a small fracture at the bottom of his left fibula. He will stay in hospital overnight for observation.
