Donald Trump launched a late-night social media spree on Monday, posting over 50 times in three hours on his Truth Social platform. The posts targeted political opponents including Barack Obama, the New York Times, and the Supreme Court, with false accusations and calls for prosecution of Democratic rivals.
The outburst came just hours before Trump's scheduled trip to China for talks with Xi Jinping. Among the posts were doctored images of Trump on a $100 bill and demands for the arrest of political adversaries. The tirade also included attacks on Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, and Hillary Clinton.
Trump repeated false claims about the 2020 presidential election, which he lost to Joe Biden, and accused Obama of plotting a coup. He shared altered images of Obama, Biden, and Nancy Pelosi in the Lincoln Memorial's reflecting pool, captioned with derogatory remarks.
The president also criticised the New York Times for reporting on a $6.9 million contract to restore the reflecting pool, which was awarded to a company that renovated a pool at his Virginia golf course. Trump defended the project as 'deeply complicated work of smart and beautiful construction.'
Additionally, Trump expressed disapproval of Supreme Court justices Neil Gorsuch and Amy Coney Barrett, whom he appointed, for voting against his tariff agenda earlier this year. He called their decisions 'devastating' and 'hurtful to our Country.'
The late-night activity comes amid rising living costs and the ongoing US and Israeli war with Iran, which Trump has described as 'on life support' despite earlier campaigning against 'endless wars.'
