A body discovered in Tampa Bay has been positively identified as the second missing University of South Florida doctoral student from Bangladesh, according to Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister.
Identification of the Victim
Nahida Bristy's remains were recovered on Sunday after a kayaker's fishing line became snagged on a garbage bag containing her body. The sheriff's office confirmed the identification through DNA and dental records, as the body had decomposed significantly.
This discovery comes two days after the body of Bristy's friend and fellow USF doctoral student, Zamil Limon, was found in another garbage bag on a bridge over Tampa Bay. Limon's roommate, Hisham Saleh Abugharbeih, was taken into custody on the same day and has been charged with two counts of murder.
Suspect's Reaction
Sheriff Chronister described the suspect as unemotional when confronted with evidence of the killings. "He was nonreactive. He was callous and showed no emotion when we showed him the information we had," Chronister stated.
Investigation Ongoing
Authorities believe the two students were murdered around the same time and location, though further investigation is required to confirm this. The sheriff acknowledged that detectives have not yet determined a motive for the murders. The case continues to develop as investigators work to piece together the events leading to the deaths of Bristy and Limon.
