A throwback photo of Keir Starmer, Wes Streeting, and Catherine West, taken on their first day as MPs in 2015, has resurfaced online, drawing fresh attention amid ongoing Labour leadership tensions. The image, originally posted by Starmer on X, shows the three politicians together in the Commons chamber.
The resurfaced photo comes as Starmer faces mounting pressure from within his party, with Catherine West recently urging Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson to challenge the Prime Minister. West warned that if Cabinet members do not select a new leader, she would stand herself.
Speaking on BBC's Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg, West criticised the lack of senior women stepping forward, saying, 'Why are all the men better than the women?' Phillipson responded, 'I love you dearly, Catherine, but I just disagree on this one.'
Meanwhile, Health Secretary Wes Streeting attended a service at Westminster Abbey commemorating Florence Nightingale, paying tribute to nurses and midwives. The service, held annually, celebrates the legacy of healthcare workers.
Despite four ministerial resignations this week, over 100 backbenchers have reportedly signed a letter supporting Starmer. The Prime Minister acknowledged the recent events had 'destabilised' the government but insisted he would continue governing, as the formal process to challenge his leadership has not been triggered.
