Saturday Night Live took aim at King Charles III during its Weekend Update segment, mocking his recent US visit and branding Meghan Markle a 'terrorist'. The comedy show's co-anchors, Michael Che and Colin Jost, delivered a series of jokes targeting the King, his family, and the 'special relationship' between the UK and US.
Che began by commenting on Charles's meeting with New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, joking that the King should have taken him back to England as 'an Indian treasure'. This referenced Mamdani's previous call for the return of the Koh-i-Noor diamond, seized by the British East India Company in 1949.
Jost then claimed Charles's visit was a subterfuge to 'seek the release of a British hostage being held by an American terrorist' – a reference to Prince Harry's marriage to Meghan Markle. The pair also joked about former Prince Andrew, suggesting Trump might call him under the name 'Andrew (Island)' in his phone, prompting an image of the island.
The segment aired after President Trump hosted the King and Queen Camilla, describing Charles as 'the greatest King'. Trump later announced he would remove tariffs on Scotch whisky, a move Buckingham Palace described as part of 'a most enjoyable State Visit'.
Viewers praised the jokes on social media, with one calling the Mamdani punchline 'sincere' and another saying 'Andrew (Island)' was 'a perfect mix of funny and realistic'. Meanwhile, SNL UK responded with a skit mocking its US counterpart, following a previous sketch that had mocked actress Aimee Lou Wood's teeth.
