Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie have been issued a three-word warning about their royal future as scandals involving their parents continue to unfold. The daughters of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson have found themselves dragged into controversy due to their parents' association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Scandals and Living Arrangements
Both Andrew and Sarah were named multiple times in files released by the US Department of Justice related to Epstein. Additionally, the sisters' living situations were highlighted in a recent report by the National Audit Office into royal properties and rent. It was revealed that King Charles is funding their accommodations: Princess Beatrice at St James's Palace and Princess Eugenie at Kensington Palace.
Expert Warning
Speaking to New Magazine, former royal editor Duncan Larcombe issued a warning that the scandal shows no sign of ending. He noted that the sisters' recent appearance at their cousin Peter Phillips' wedding to Harriet Phillips brought them into the spotlight in an unprecedented way.
"What's happened to Andrew and Fergie has brought the spotlight onto the two of them in a way that they will have never experienced before," Larcombe said. "And I don't think that will die down, because Andrew was released under investigation and we don't know where that's going to end yet."
He added that the princesses are demonstrating a desire not to let their father's situation destroy their roles as allies of the working royal family. However, he cautioned: "That's all fine unless Andrew is charged or has to face court, and the revelations become open season again. It might make their position very difficult going forward."
Future Role in the Monarchy
Despite the warnings, Larcombe believes Prince William will eventually rely on his cousins. "William represents the next generation of royals. Frankly, I think he realises that, as Princess Anne and Prince Edward have supported Charles, you need a few peripheral royals to support the work of the Royal Family," he said.
He pointed to the wedding as "the biggest hint yet that William sees them as an important part of his monarchy." Andrew has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing regarding his friendship with Epstein.
