Zack Polanski’s popularity ratings have taken a significant hit following a series of missteps, with his net approval falling by 14 points. The decline comes after a public row with the Metropolitan Police chief over a social media post about the Golders Green stabbings, as well as resurfaced controversial comments.
Row with Met Police
Mr Polanski faced sharp criticism after sharing what he later admitted was an “inaccurate” post condemning the Metropolitan Police’s handling of the Golders Green stabbings. The post drew condemnation from Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley. In a subsequent BBC interview, Polanski incorrectly claimed that the terror suspect was handcuffed during apprehension, despite video evidence showing otherwise.
Past Controversies
Further scrutiny has fallen on Polanski for earlier statements. He previously suggested that hypnotherapy could increase breast size, a claim he initially apologised for but later appeared to double down on in a resurfaced interview. Additionally, he admitted to misrepresenting himself as a spokesperson for the British Red Cross during his campaign for deputy leader in 2022, stating he “used the wrong word.”
These incidents have collectively damaged his standing as local elections approach, with analysts noting a 14-point drop in net approval. Polanski has acknowledged he is not ready to be prime minister currently.
