Nick Cannon admits 'double standard' in parenting twins with Mariah Carey

Nick Cannon has admitted to enforcing a 'double standard' when it comes to dating rules for his 15-year-old twins with ex-wife Mariah Carey. In an episode of The TMZ Podcast, the 45-year-old entertainer revealed that son Moroccan is allowed to date, while daughter Monroe is not.

'My son been dating and I've allowed it,' Cannon told host Towanda Robinson. When asked about Monroe, he said: 'I'm more protective of my daughter because there's things out there that I have to protect my daughter from.' He added that it would be his 'worst nightmare' if someone hurt her, and that he would 'go to jail' if anyone put their hands on her.

Cannon said he and Monroe had 'made a deal' that she could date if she could explain what would happen on the date. He also insisted her brother would accompany them, stating: 'She ain't going one-on-one with no little b*****d anywhere.' The comedian acknowledged that once she goes to college, it will be 'out of my control,' but said he would be open to dialogue.

The comments drew criticism online. One X user asked: 'Is this protection or double standards?' Another wrote: 'You can't overprotect one and underprepare the other – that's how situations get created.' Others called the stance 'pathetic' and 'f*****g weird,' with some accusing Cannon of 'keeping his daughter away from men like him.'

Cannon and Carey, 57, married in 2008 and divorced in 2016. They co-parent their twins, who reportedly spend equal time with both parents. Cannon has since fathered ten more children with five other women, including a son who died of brain cancer in 2021.
