Ghislaine Maxwell 'Much Happier' After Transfer to Texas Prison Camp

Ghislaine Maxwell, the former girlfriend and associate of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, has told friends and family that she is “much happier” following her transfer to a minimum-security prison camp in Texas. In emails obtained by NBC News, the 63-year-old described her new environment as a stark improvement over her previous facility in Florida.

“I feel like I have dropped through Alice in Wonderland’s looking glass,” Maxwell wrote. “I am much much happier here and more importantly safe.” She praised the prison camp’s cleanliness, orderliness, and improved food, noting that the staff are “responsive and polite.” Maxwell also commended warden Tanisha Hall as a “true professional.”

The transfer occurred in August, shortly after Maxwell met with Justice Department officials for two days in July as part of the investigation into the so-called Epstein files. Former prison staff described the move as “unheard of,” and some critics have accused officials of granting Maxwell “VIP treatment.” House Judiciary Committee Democrat Jamie Raskin wrote to warden Hall last month, citing reports of private meetings, meal delivery, and other special perks that have sparked resentment among fellow inmates.

Maxwell is serving a 20-year sentence for her role in a sex-trafficking scheme with Epstein. Her new facility, Bryan Federal Prison Camp, is often nicknamed “club fed” for its relatively relaxed conditions, including dormitory-style cells and no barbed wire. Other notable inmates include Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes and reality TV star Jen Shah.

David Oscar Markus, Maxwell’s lawyer, criticised the publication of her private emails, calling it “tabloid behaviour.” Her brother, Ian Maxwell, also expressed disapproval, stating the messages were “personal and private.” The controversy comes amid ongoing public and political calls for transparency around the Epstein files, which have continued to attract attention during the second Trump administration.
