Marjorie Taylor Greene has claimed the future of the Republican Party has been 'destroyed' following the primary defeat of Representative Thomas Massie, linking his loss to efforts to release documents related to Jeffrey Epstein.
Massie lost his primary in Kentucky's 4th congressional district to retired Navy SEAL Ed Gallrein, a candidate backed by President Donald Trump. Trump celebrated the result, calling Massie 'a bad guy' who 'deserved to lose'.
Greene, a former congresswoman, defended Massie on social media, writing: 'Releasing the Epstein files was our demise. But it was worth every single bit because now everyone knows the truth.' She argued the primary result signals a permanent fracture within the party.
Massie had partnered with Democrat Ro Khanna to force a vote on the Epstein Transparency Act, which passed with near-unanimous support. The move created friction with the White House, leading to a concerted campaign to unseat him.
Despite his loss, Massie defended the legislation, noting that it had led to the removal of 'two dozen CEOs, an ambassador, a prince, a prime minister, a minister of culture' in six months. He has seven months left in Congress.
