Ashley James, known for her appearances on This Morning, has resigned as a Girlguiding ambassador with immediate effect, citing the organisation's decision to ban transgender girls from membership. The ITV personality expressed devastation over the policy, stating that trans girls 'are not a threat'.
In a statement on Instagram, James said she was 'heartbroken' for the trans community and emphasised that inclusion makes society stronger. She wrote: 'Trans girls experience the same threats as other women and girls – they are not a threat to us. They are our sisters.'
Girlguiding announced that new young members must be recorded female at birth, following a Supreme Court ruling on sex and gender. The organisation said the decision was made after legal advice and consultation, and that it remains committed to inclusion through a taskforce for marginalised groups.
Supporters of James praised her stance, with one commenting: 'Well done and well said, I've been a WI member for 15 years and I've decided I cannot be a part of the organisation any longer after today's decision.' Another called the move 'a disappointing statement to read'.
