Two-time Oscar winner Kevin Spacey has declared himself homeless, stating that his ostracism from Hollywood and immense legal fees have left him with no permanent address.
A Career Imploded by Allegations
The 66-year-old actor, once a towering figure in the film industry, saw his career collapse in 2017 after he was accused of a historical sexual assault against a 14-year-old boy. Spacey denied the allegation and was subsequently cleared in a New York civil court in 2022. The following year, a London jury at Southwark Crown Court acquitted him of separate charges involving four men.
Despite these legal victories, Spacey claims the damage was irreversible. Major studios severed ties with him, he was edited out of completed films, and removed from ongoing projects, most notably the hit series House of Cards.
The Financial Ruin of Legal Defence
Spacey revealed that the financial strain of defending himself in multiple cases since 2017 has been catastrophic. He described his legal bills as "astronomical", wiping out his life savings and forcing him to give up his home.
"I’ve had very little coming in and everything going out," he stated. "I’m living in hotels, I’m living in Airbnbs, I’m going where the work is. I literally have no home." The actor has placed all of his belongings in storage as he drifts between short-term rentals.
Hopes for a Comeback Amidst Exile
Before the scandal, Spacey's career was the envy of Hollywood. He served as artistic director of London's Old Vic theatre for over a decade and won two Academy Awards, a BAFTA, a Golden Globe, and a Tony Award.
Now, he compares his treatment to the Hollywood blacklist of the 1950s, suggesting he has been punished despite being cleared by the justice system. Nevertheless, Spacey remains hopeful, claiming he is in discussions with "extremely powerful people" who want to facilitate his return to acting. "That will happen in its right time," he asserted.
