A glamorous Republican lawmaker from Wyoming is celebrating a legal victory after a judge dismissed her former partner's demand for thousands of dollars related to a planned African elephant hunting safari.
Courtroom Clash Over Unfulfilled Safari
Nina Webber, 61, a state representative elected in November 2024, faced a small-claims lawsuit filed by her ex-boyfriend, Scott Weber, 70. Weber alleged that Webber owed him $6,000 for a lavish hunting trip to Africa that the couple never took.
The pair had been in a relationship for nearly a decade and had previously embarked on two hunting excursions to South Africa and Zimbabwe. The dispute centred on a third trip planned for May 2025. Weber claimed he purchased plane tickets in December 2024 and that Webber had agreed to reimburse him, which she ultimately failed to do.
Conflicting Testimonies and a Venomous Tale
In court, their accounts diverged sharply. Weber maintained there was an agreement for repayment and that Webber only backed out due to her legislative committee schedule. Webber, however, testified that she never wanted to go on the trip, citing a disastrous and frightening experience during their 2023 Zimbabwe safari.
She recounted a harrowing incident where a highly venomous black mamba snake entered their camp and had to be shot by an attendant. Webber stated she felt unsafe, threatened by locals, and was a conspicuous 'blond-haired, blue-eyed, female hunter' in the environment. This experience, she said, made her reluctant to travel with Weber again and no agreement to repay him was ever made.
Judge's Ruling and Social Media Spat
Last week, Circuit Court Judge Joseph Darrah dismissed the case, siding with Webber's assertion that there was no understanding, written or verbal, for her to reimburse the costs. The judge commended Webber's 'temerity and tenacity' in her public role.
Webber swiftly took to Facebook to celebrate, posting: 'Truth WINS. DISMISSED WITH PREJUDICE. Thank you for all who stood by me... God Bless.' Weber responded by vowing to appeal, accusing Webber of lying under oath and questioning her credibility as an elected official.
Aftermath of a Personal and Political Feud
The legal battle capped the end of a tumultuous relationship. Court documents show Weber evicted Webber from his home in Cody, Wyoming, in June 2024. Following the breakup, Webber was forced to move out of the district she represented.
While she recently gave up a local party committee seat, Nina Webber continues to serve as the Wyoming GOP's committeewoman to the Republican National Committee. The very public dispute highlights the intersection of personal conflicts and political life, with the possibility of an appeal prolonging the feud.
