Before Hugh Jackman solidified his relationship with Sutton Foster during their Met Gala debut this week, the Australian actor made a significant move to sever ties with his ex-wife, Deborra-Lee Furness. Just weeks prior to the high-profile event, the 57-year-old Wolverine star quietly relisted one of the marital homes he once shared with Furness.
Divorce Settlement and Property Sale
Although Jackman and Furness finalized their divorce in June 2025, they are still in the process of dividing their shared assets. One such asset is a stunning New York apartment, which was put back on the market on March 31 — just one month before Jackman and Foster walked the Met Gala red carpet. Originally listed for an eye-watering AUD$57.5 million (US$38.9 million) in 2022, Jackman slashed the price by AUD$16 million. Located in Manhattan's upscale West Village, the five-bedroom, six-bathroom property now carries a price tag of AUD$41.5 million (US$28,750,000).
According to property records, Jackman and Furness, 70, still own the residence, which they purchased in 2008 for US$21.1 million (AUD$29.1 million). The former couple later moved to a smaller property in nearby Chelsea.
Luxurious Features of the Apartment
Spanning the 8th, 9th, and 10th floors of a 15-storey high-rise, the apartment covers 1,021 square metres and offers breathtaking views of the Hudson River and the iconic Manhattan skyline. The 10th floor houses a luxurious main bedroom suite, complete with a studio, spa bath, sauna, and dressing rooms. The other two levels feature living spaces, a library, and a guest bedroom. Additional highlights include floor-to-ceiling windows, a recreation room, and a professional gourmet kitchen. Amenities in the sought-after building include a fitness centre, a full-time doorman, and concierge services.
It is understood that the sale of this property was part of the Jackman-Furness divorce settlement. Furness reportedly bought out Jackman's stake in their other luxury New York abode — a AUD$35 million (US$24 million) three-bedroom Manhattan penthouse. That property, purchased together in 2022 for AUD$31.6 million (US$21.12 million), underwent a property transfer rather than being listed for sale.
Public Reaction to Met Gala Appearance
The once high-profile couple, who married in 1996, announced their separation in 2023 after 27 years of marriage. Meanwhile, Jackman and Foster, who made their romance official in January 2025, appeared deeply in love as they arrived at the Met Gala. Jackman towered over Foster in a black tuxedo with a stylish velvet jacket and shiny dress shoes, his short brunette hair pushed back with gel. Foster was the epitome of elegance in a glittering gold one-shoulder gown with a matching jewelled clutch.
However, their public debut did not escape criticism. Social media users slammed Jackman's choice of date as 'disrespectful' and 'classless'. Comments included 'Thumbs down! It's forever team Debbie over here!!' and 'Poor Deborra.' Another user wrote, 'I lost big respect for him.' Jackman and his ex-wife previously attended multiple Met Galas together, with their last joint appearance in 2023. The actor notably attended the 2024 event solo and skipped it altogether last year amid their high-profile split.
