Ex-Tory councillor admits child abuse images after raping wife

Philip Young, a 49-year-old former Conservative councillor, has pleaded guilty to a total of 56 charges, including rape, sexual assault, assault by penetration and voyeurism against his ex-wife, Joanne Young, over a 13-year period from 2010 to 2023. Young also admitted to multiple counts of administering a substance to his then-wife with intent to stupefy her, and publishing more than 500 intimate images and videos of her without consent for his own sexual gratification.

Additional charges

Appearing via video link from prison at Winchester Crown Court, Young further pleaded guilty to eight additional charges, including three counts of making indecent images of children and one of possessing prohibited images of children in July 2024. He also admitted to four counts of possessing an extreme pornographic image, with these offences occurring between January 2019 and January 2024, bringing his total number of admitted charges to 56, meaning he will not stand trial.

Other defendants

Five other men – Dean Hamilton, Norman Macksoni, Richard Wilkins, Connor Sanderson-Doyle, and Mohammed Hassan – have also been charged with sexual offences against Mrs Young, with some denying charges and scheduled for trial in October.
