HBO has continued its tradition of shockingly violent weddings with the latest episode of Euphoria, which has drawn immediate comparisons to Game of Thrones' iconic Red Wedding.
Gruesome Wedding Night
The third episode of season three, aired on Sunday, featured the wedding of Jacob Elordi's Nate Jacobs and Sydney Sweeney's Cassie Howard. After a lavish reception, the newlyweds return home to find Nate's debt collectors waiting. They knock Cassie down, beat Nate to a bloody pulp, and chop off his pinky toe, all while his bride watches in horror.
Fans quickly took to social media to draw parallels. One viewer wrote on X: "Haven't seen such a disastrous wedding since The Red Wedding." Another added: "I thought the red wedding was peak chaotic wedding... then Nate and Cassie said 'hold my toxic champagne.'"

Comments flooded in comparing the episode to the infamous Game of Thrones massacre from season three, where several main characters were betrayed and murdered at a wedding feast. One fan noted: "I think Nate & Cassie may have had the most depressing wedding this side of the Red Wedding." Another wrote: "Cassie and Nate's wedding was easily the second most chaotic wedding in television history only after the Red Wedding from GoT."
However, some viewers had expected a different tone, referencing the disastrous wedding episodes from Succession. One critic said: "I was hoping this episode would have the same potential as Connor's wedding in the last season of Succession, but I forgot this is Euphoria." Another added: "If Sam Levinson thought he can pull off a Succession or GoT type of wedding episode I'm never gonna stop laughing."
Wedding Details
Before the violence, the episode featured a high school reunion of sorts, with Zendaya's Rue, Hunter Schafer's Jules, and Alexa Demie's Maddy attending the opulent event. The wedding boasted $50,000 floral arrangements and a melting ice sculpture of the couple. The late Eric Dane appeared as Nate's father, Cal Jacobs, having filmed scenes after his ALS diagnosis. Dane passed away at age 53 in February, before the season premiered.
