Former EastEnders actor Forbes Masson has announced his separation from his wife, singer Melanie, after more than 25 years together. The 58-year-old, who played Rodney Morris on the BBC soap in 2000, shared the news on social media, describing a 'sore heart' and 'deep sadness'.
Masson, also known for roles in The Crown, Red Dwarf, and Taggart, posted on Instagram and Facebook: 'It is with a deep sadness and a very heavy and sore heart that I have to announce that after over 25 years together, Melanie and I are going our separate ways.' He added: 'I wish Melanie only love and happiness and hope she finds it.'
In a follow-up post, Masson thanked friends for their support and said he was 'fine and in the glorious highlands'. He noted that Melanie 'seems fine, too' and asked for privacy as he processes the split, saying: 'I am not really up to talking about this to folk yet.'
Melanie rose to fame on The X Factor in 2012 as part of the over-28s category, becoming the second contestant eliminated in the live shows. She has since worked as a session vocalist with acts such as Stereophonics, Kasabian, and Fatboy Slim, and has performed in West End musicals.
Masson's EastEnders character Rodney was involved in a controversial storyline where he sexually assaulted a teenager. Away from acting, Masson co-created the Scottish comedy series The High Life with Alan Cumming.
