Pro-Trump CNN Pundit Scott Jennings Drops F-Bomb in Heated Iran War Debate

Scott Jennings, CNN's leading pro-Trump commentator, sparked controversy on Thursday night after swearing at a fellow panelist during a live broadcast of NewsNight With Abby Phillip. The outburst occurred when Jennings was repeatedly pressed to name a single political concession the US had gained from its war with Iran, and failed to provide an answer.

The clash began when Adam Mockler, a 23-year-old progressive commentator with MeidasTouch, asked Jennings to specify a concrete gain from the conflict. Jennings responded with the party-line argument that the war's purpose was to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Mockler countered that the non-answer was itself an answer, saying, “So you can’t answer the question.” As Mockler gestured with his hands while speaking, Jennings snapped: “Get your fucking hand out of my face.”

Jennings, a former George W. Bush campaign staffer, has a history of lashing out at panelists who invade his personal space, including a tense moment with Democratic commentator Bakari Sellers in 2024. The incident comes amid growing public opposition to the Iran war. A new Washington Post–ABC News–Ipsos poll found that 61% of Americans now consider the use of military force against Iran a mistake, a level of opposition comparable to the Iraq war in 2006 and the Vietnam war in the early 1970s.

Fewer than one in five Americans believe the campaign is going well, with roughly 40% saying it has not been successful and another 40% saying it is too early to judge. The results mirror a CNN poll conducted in the early days of the war. Jennings had argued on air that Democratic opposition was manufacturing the war's unpopularity, a line echoed by Pentagon Secretary Pete Hegseth, who told Senator Richard Blumenthal that “defeatist Democrats” cloud the American people's minds.

Jennings did not respond to a request for comment on whether he would explain the outburst or apologise to Mockler.
